Hey guys,
This page is reserved for only the very best products and techniques you can use to get rid of rodents.
Currently, the best way we have found for getting rid of all manner of small rodents is the Agrizap Rat Zapper Ultra.
So, why is this black box such an awesome buy?
First and foremost, it does the job and it does it well. It is one of the most effective methods of killing a rodent available. Some traps will allow the rodent to escape (with the bait) before they spring and sometimes do not even trigger at all. The Rat Zapper Ultra uses infra-red sensors to ensure it hits every time.
Secondly, the Rat Zapper Ultra kills the rodent cleanly. If you’ve used traditional spring-loaded or lever traps in the past, you’ll know that they can be messy and you’re left with a mixture of blood and gore to clean up after trapping the rodent. Because the Rat Zapper Ultra kills the rodent using electricity, the only thing left to do after trapping the vermin is to dispose of the body.
Which leads me nicely to the Rat Zapper Ultra’s next benefit – getting rid of the carcass. Again, there is no mess. In fact, you don’t even need to touch the rodent’s body. Simply carry the Rat Zapper Ultra to the trash can, tilt it and the carcass will slide out.
Although the Rat Zapper Ultra isn’t as humane as traps that capture the rodent alive, it is considered to be more humane than other methods because the rodent is killed instantly. Other traps and poison can cause the rodent to suffer a prolong and slow death, which can be upsetting and considered cruel for some people.
So, what are the bad points?
Although the Rat Zapper is effective, clean and more humane than other methods, it is also quite expensive at between $40 and $60 per unit. Despite it’s fairly high price tag, the Rat Zapper Ultra is so good at doing it’s job that it more than pays for itself over it’s lifetime.
Unfortunately, batteries are not included with the unit (it requires 4 ‘D’ cell batteries), which means the cost of batteries should be factored in to the final price. The good news is that the batteries do last a long time – you can get around 30 kills with each set.
If you have a particularly large rodent infestation, catching them all can be a long process because the Rat Zapper Ultra has to be reset between kills. Fortunately, the boffins at Agri-Zap have thought of this and offer The Rat’s Tale as an optional extra. This is a device that attaches to the unit and displays an LED light to tell you when the trap has been triggered so that you don’t have to keep checking and disturbing the Rat Zapper itself.
Finally, because the Rat Zapper Ultra kills the rodents, it cannot be considered 100% humane. If you are looking for a humane solution, check out my post on getting rid of rodents using humane methods.
